Learn About Our Camogie Team in New York

Founded in 2014, Liberty Gaels Camogie Club is a leading Camogie team based in New York. The club was established to reintroduce adult Camogie after more than 20 years without the sport being played locally.

Originally formed as Hoboken Guards Camogie Club in partnership with the Hoboken Hurlers, the team quickly established itself at a competitive level. In 2015, the camogie team traveled to Chicago for its first North American Championships and won the Senior Camogie title in its debut appearance.

The club became fully independent in 2016 and officially adopted the name Liberty Gaels Camogie Club. That same year, the Senior Camogie team began a dominant run, securing three consecutive Senior North American Championship titles:

  • Chicago (2015)
  • Seattle (2016)
  • San Francisco (2017)

In 2016, Liberty Gaels also represented New York at the inaugural Camogie World Games, winning the Shield.

As a result of the club’s growth and influence, the New York Camogie Championship was established and now features five adult Camogie teams: Liberty Gaels, Annie Moore’s, St. Brigid’s, Rockland, and Rangers.

Over the past decade, Liberty Gaels has remained one of the most successful camogie teams in North America, adding another Senior North American Championship title in 2021.

In 2024, the camogie team made history by becoming the first to win the Senior Continental Championship, claiming the title in Boston. The team also won the Senior NY 7’s Championship in 2025.

Expanding internationally, Liberty Gaels became the first New York camogie team to compete in the Canadian Championships in Vancouver in 2024 and plans to return to compete again in Toronto in 2026.
